    Janine Jensen: I remember her once talking about connecting the notes, thinking about creating that bridge between each and every note. Not just paying attention to each and every note, but actually to the process between each and every note, how to go from one to the next note… she squeezes every drop of juice out of every inch of music, I feel 💜 All of those performers are my favourite ones, in some way :) Thanks again for this enlightening vid, Ray ⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Oh my god, that’s a super interesting exercise, to compare different performers in the same work…. To me, what Ray says about different styles floating different boats, is so true. There always is the question creeping in to my mind, too: ‘what would Mendelssohn have thought of this performance? Which one came closest to his idea of the work? Closest to what he felt and thought when conceiving the melodies?’ And then thinking: ‘we might never know. All there is is the present time, and how we feel about playing, or listening to, something.’ To me, honestly what grabs me most, always, is Vengerov’s and Janine’s playing. It’s just goosebumps all the way through… And yeah, those insane pinkies 😱 Must go practise, right now!! Thanks for an honest, fun and super interesting video, Ray! 👍🙏✌️

    I challenge you to learn Arpeggios from Hell by Yngwie Malmsteen in 1 hour. Malmsteen is a neoclassical guitarist and i think you will like his music.

  • @somekindofdude1130
    @somekindofdude1130 7 часов назад

    Tbf arpeggios and string skipping are much harder to do in guitar due to anatomical reasons (i mean without the notes bleeding) but i can say the sams about harmonics, octaves and chords in the violin I also feel like you cheated a bit with the speed and the video cuts but you said you needed a week for most Paganini Capricia so i am not sure.

    I have seen in a lot of comments people state that this form of video is deceptive, why not just straight up give a free performance etc. 1. Because it is funny? Especially when you know these kinds of video is *definitely* staged but the musicians deliberately act like they totally don't know each other (for example Emilie puts they caption "omg he plays so fast" like he has no idea who THE Ray Chen is) and just happen to come across each other. 2. If the musicians just announce that they are going to give a free performance there will be people specifically come to see one of the two because they know beforehand how incredible the musicians are. They will come with this expectation that this performance will be grand or luxurius etc., and not for the pure joy music alone could bring. Like Ray said, the audience is 100% real. Maybe to us youtube watcher these videos are just obviously staged (and therefore funny) with beautiful music videos, to the onlookers it's still a pleasantly surprise performance (most of them probably don't know who these famous musicians actually are, and have no prior expectation). When that happens, it's truly music and not names associated with music that connects otherwise unrelated strangers.

    A really superb job of comparison! All your comments are right on point and enlightening. I've always been most in love with the Sarah Chang performance. Seeing her again on this video instantly brought back the tears to my eyes. And that's what passionate music should do! The other three play well each in their own way but Sarah's the one who most engages the emotional heart of this piece and this listener.

    As a violist, I don’t know how The Viola is so hated like it’s a pretty sounding instrument and it’s neat because it has some cello Strings and violin strings put into one so when playing our pieces in concerts we sometimes switch between different instrument parts so sometimes we might play with the cellos in then play with the violins then other parts, our own parts. It’s also kind of like we’re multitasking different parts. It’s sad that the viola is so hated😢.
